The Benue State Government has launched a compulsory Biometric Data Capturing for all commercial motorcyclist operating in the state, in order to curb cases of armed robbery and terrorism attacks on its communities.
Declaring the Biometric Data Capturing exercise open at the Government House, Governor Samuel Ortom, reveals that insurgents from the North East have infiltrated the business of Okada to aid the herdsmen attacks.
The project which is being driven by the State Board of Internal Revenue as part of measures to ensure motorcyclist pay their N50.00 daily revenue, will ensure complete security details of an operator to be captured and assigned a code number for easy tracking.
However, the continuous use of motorcycles in the state, now pose as security threats according to Governor Samuel Ortom who says, credible intelligence obtained by securities agencies indicates that insurgents displaced from the North East have infiltrated the business.
The launch of the biometric exercise, according to the presentation, will have details all ten finger prints of the operator, his residential address and next of kin, while wearing reflective jackets bearing individually assigned security code during working hours.
The State Chairman of the Benue State Motorcycle Operators Association, throws his weight behind the project which he described as noble.
The Executive Chairman of the revenue board, whose office is in-charge of the implementation of the biometric project, lists the security and economic benefits of ensuring full compliance.
Although, members of the motorcycle operators association, initially resisted the project by protesting against its implementation, BENMOA Chairman says the agitation is in the past.
The Benue state government is not leaving any security lead to chance as it has come under serious pressure following the simultaneous attacks on its communities by herdsmen in Agatu, Logo, Guma, Buruku, Tarka, Ukum and Kwande Local Government Area respectively.
